In the Brain-SET Environments Formula®, classroom design deliberately supports three brain need levels: Survival, Emotional, and Thinking (S.E.T.).

Last updated: 17 July 2026

Survival

Children need to feel physically and psychologically safe. Clear zones, predictable layout, reduced sensory overwhelm, and retreat options help the nervous system settle.

Emotional

Connection and belonging matter. Spaces should invite relationship, co-regulation, and a sense of being welcomed — for children and educators.

Thinking

Once calm and connected, the brain can explore, problem-solve, use language, and engage in playful deep learning. Materials and layout should invite thinking without chaos.
